"Meesa clumsy" (Understatement of the 'Galaxy far away' millennia)
the fall of the Republic and the rise of the Empire is entirely the fault of Jar-Jar Binks.
no wonder the gungans gave him the boot.

Yes and no. He was a pawn... but Sideous was already putting his machinations in place.
If Jar Jar wasn't there, someone else would have been the tool of the Emperor.
so? the galaxy needs a scapegoat.
Heeeeeeeeeyyyyy.... machinations!
...I thought is was that Pad-Me chick's fault. That, or her hairdresser. Lucas is a misogynist, by the by.
is that like, a new-age word for a "jack-ass that makes the shit I like, yet makes me hate him!" type of person?

You referring to Obi Wan's amputation of various arms along this jourmey Jor?
I cringe when fanboys or employees of Lucas being filmed during "making of" bits act like he's some kind of friggin' genius or something.
Even he would admit to a TON of good luck in regards to people around him and timing.
Cut back to the mid 70's.... man had been landing on the moon. The Space shuttle program is in the works... Space is on the mind of people. Baby boomers who grew up watching the movie serials are chomping at the bit for some kind of adventure.
VCR's haven't been invented yet so people line up around theatres like the second coming of the Beatles to watch Star Wars over and over (how many of us now decide to "wait for the rental" or "I'll download it next week").
Lucas took a tried and true Princess/Hero formula and set it in a Flash Gordon-esque setting. Where he was inovative was how he stuck to his genre idea, and gathered the special effects talents and used them in ways we had never seen. Pushing the envelope of what we expected from a movie.
Fortunately he enlisted Ralph McQuarrie to make time-less designs for the sets and characters as well as the excellent choice of John Williams music as opposed to dated music of the era.
He kinda "shot his wad" with Empire, getting all the cool ideas he had but couldn't afford to do with the original movie.
I think we're fortunate that he didn't try to make these movies 10 years earlier or later.... The release of all 6 movies will forever be landmarks as we progress (or regress depending on your point of view) from big set movies to studio controlled big FX movies shot on green screens.
